The Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) Foundation and Sticks for Kids program partner National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) are proud to announce the recipient of the inaugural Sticks for Kids Excellence Award: Friends of Sandy Springs Foundation in Sandy Springs, Ga.
The award is meant to honor an outstanding junior golf program that has utilized its granted Sticks for Kids program to the fullest potential. That can be accomplished by establishing and growing a junior golf program and using it as an outreach and youth development tool for area youth as well as a means to grow the game.

Cartwheel Workshop Announced
Cartwheels are one of the basic moves in gymnastics. Practicing cartwheels strengthens the upper body and helps in learning later tricks such as round-offs, walkovers, handsprings, and more.
Sandy Springs Recreation is offering a Cartwheel workshop for boys and girls ages 4-6 years-old. The workshop will be held at the Hammond Park Gym on July 30, 2011 from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Talented Coaching Duo Tumbles into Sandy Springs Gymnastics Community
Within five years, the Sandy Springs gymnastics program has grown by leaps and bounds from just 100 participants to in excess of 1,200 and now the coaching staff will see expansion too. The Sandy Springs gymnastics community welcomes husband and wife coaching team Gennadiy (“Coach G”) and Ina Korshunov. The pair joins the existing coaching staff and brings with them a combined 98 years of coaching experience of gymnasts at all skill levels and talents.
“I am thrilled to watch them work with children,” said Marina Davidovich, owner of Sandy Springs Recreation, Inc. “They have something special about them: kindness, genuine love for kids and knowledge of the sport.”

Up The River Outfitters Paddles into Sandy Springs
Residents can now take advantage of Up the River Outfitters and rent Kayaks and Canoes from the rental station set up at the Morgan Falls River Park. Tubing will be available once the weather gets warmer. Renters can to choose from a 2 hour paddle and a 4 hour paddle both starting at Morgan Falls. The 2 hour paddle will end at Powers Island and the 4 hour paddle will end at Paces Mills. All rental fees include a return shuttle back to Morgan Falls River Park.

Morgan Falls Master Park Plan
The Morgan Falls Master Plan has been approved by the City Council with the exception of the River Park area which the Council requested be modified. The revised plans for the River Park were presented to the Council on July 15th.
