Certificates of Occupancy

All occupancies of both residential and commercial structures require a valid Certificate of Occupancy (CO). A final inspection memo or sign off from the Fire Marshall’s office is not sufficient to occupy a commercial building or space, including tenant finishes. Please be advised that requests for COs must be made at the offices of the Community Development Department and may require up to one week to complete. The Citizen Response Center can be reached by calling 770-730-5600. By dialing this main telephone number, residents can reach all City departments and report problems such as litter or graffiti, non-functioning street signals or potholes in City streets. Code Enforcement

The goal of the City of Sandy Springs Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department is to ensure property maintenance and land use compliance. Dead Animal Removal

Demonstrations (Picketing)

To hold a public demonstration in the City of Sandy Springs, a Special Event Permit Application must be submitted. The application should be submitted to the City at least 60 days prior to the proposed event. Design Review Board

The Sandy Springs Design Review Board (DRB) is an advisory board that reviews applications for building and development based on their aesthetic, architectural and design merits with respect to the standards of the Sandy Springs Overlay District.

Dog Parks

The City has opened its first off-leash dog park at the end of Morgan Falls Road on the river. However, most City of Sandy Springs parks allow dogs if they are leashed and owners clean up after their pets. Click here for a listing of all the City of Sandy Springs parks.

Downtown Business District

The Downtown Business District in the City of Sandy Springs is centered on the intersection of Hammond Drive and Roswell Road and extends along the Roswell Road corridor. Through redevelopment, the area is becoming a more vital live-work environment with improved pedestrian capabilities and upscale retail shops and restaurants.

Sandy Springs residents attend public schools within the Fulton County School system. Sandy Springs is served by four public elementary schools, two public middle schools, and two public high schools. In addition, the residents of Sandy Springs have easy access to 41 private schools in the Metro Atlanta area. The gardens and historic location of the Williams-Payne House make an ideal setting for weddings and special occasions and create a welcoming atmosphere for meetings and planning retreats. Reasonable rental fees, convenient location, free parking and personalized assistance keeps everything simple and enjoyable. Fire Department

The Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department was launched on December. 29, 2006 with a focus on emergency medical response. For more information, visit the Fire Rescue Department page.

Open Containers

It is prohibited for customers to leave the premises of businesses with alcoholic beverage licenses with open beverages that have been purchased such as recorked bottles of wine etc. It is also prohibited for customers to gather outside an alcoholic beverage establishment and consume alcoholic beverages. Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the street transportation system which includes road and right of way maintenance, traffic engineering, transportation planning and capital improvement implementation. Public works also contributes to the Morgan Falls Recycling Center and will implement a franchise system for private waste management services in Sandy Springs. To ensure prompt response to reports from residents, the Public Works Department has a Citizen Response Coordinator whose responsibility it is to administer all citizen responders in the area of Public Works.

Special Event Permits

In order to hold a public demonstration in the City of Sandy Springs, a Special Event Permit Application must be submitted. A special event, as defined by the City, is any activity that occurs upon public or private property that affects the ordinary use of parks, public streets, rights-of way or sidewalks, or causes an increase of more than 100 percent in average daily trips on any public street within the City. Special events may include but are not limited to such activities as arts festivals, fairs, tours, concerts, holiday celebrations, grand opening celebrations, certain business promotional events out of doors, car washes, block parties, bicycle races, runs, parades, marches and processions, motorcades, assemblies, picket lines, rallies and demonstrations.

Voting

The Fulton County Voter Registration Office, 404-730-7072, handles voter registration for all Fulton County residents regardless of the city or unincorporated area where you reside. You must be registered to vote in an election and must be registered as a resident within the area in which you intend to vote. In addition, you must be registered 29 days prior to the election date.

Located at 7645 Roswell Road, John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve is a unique, 30-acre preserve that offers more than 1.5 miles of walking trails. A ¼ mile walking trail is accessible to the public at Hammond Park, 705 Hammond Drive at Glenridge. Also, the Sandy Springs Tennis Center, located at 500 Abernathy Road, has an on-site public walking trail. Additionally our national parks have trails. Williams-Payne House

The historic Williams-Payne House is located within the City limits, just off of Roswell Road on the Heritage Sandy Springs (HSS) property. The house and property can be rented for special events, such as weddings.
