Sandy Springs Newsletter Hits the Stands
The newest edition of the Sandy Springs newsletter is now available. Articles this quarter include a look at Web site enhancements, the Citizen Response Center, the homestead exemption referendum and the upcoming Abernathy Road Linear Greenspace Park. The newsletter also outlines the historic startup of the Sandy Springs Police Department on July 1.
Citizens Head to Polls July 18
Citizens will decide July 18 whether to keep the Fulton County homestead exemption laws in effect for Sandy Springs homeowners. Six questions will appear on the ballot. Voting “yes” will keep the current homestead exemptions in place. Voting “no” will cancel them.
Councilmember to Hold Town Hall Meeting
Sandy Springs District 6 Councilmember Karen Meinzen McEnerny will hold a Town Hall Meeting at 7 p.m. on July 10 at Holy Spirit Preparatory School, 4820 Long Island Drive (across from the Fountain Oaks Shopping Center). No Millage Hike for Sandy Springs
The Sandy Springs City Council approved the 2007 fiscal year budget of $70,714,996, which allows for several new and enhanced services, particularly in code enforcement, public safety and capital improvements. The budget also includes a revenue enhancement program, but calls for no increase in the current millage rate of 4.731. (One mill produces $1 in tax for every $1,000 worth of property.) Council, Mayor OK Land Use Plan
The Sandy Springs Mayor and City Council adopted the Interim 2025 Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Map on June 20. The plan changes the zoning designations for 19 areas of the City and sets a course for future growth. Sandy Springs residents had an opportunity to attend public forums and make recommendations. Police Up and Running
The Sandy Springs Police Department is now open for business. On July 1, the department officially came online with 85 newly sworn-in officers averaging 10 years’ experience each. Six detectives will work in the department’s units, which include crimes against children, burglary, homicide and fatal accident investigation. The answers are in the newly published Shortlist of Services, a citizen’s guide to resources in Georgia’s newest city. The alphabetized directory contains brief explanations of what services the City has made available, along with various ordinances and permit requirements.
