Get tips on posting address numbers

Clearly posting your address numbers can help the Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department find your house more quickly during an emergency. The requirements for posting of street numbers and apartment building numbers are based on the Sandy Springs City Ordinance and the International Fire Code. The numbers must be clearly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. They also must contrast with the background. Requirements call for numbers at least 4 inches high and a half inch in stroke width.

The Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department is also offering information online about Apartment Fire Safety and the Knox Rapid Entry System, a device with a key box that allows firefighters to enter during an emergency.

City removing signs from rights of way

Field crews from Public Works have begun Saturday-morning sweeps on the major rights of way to collect signs that lack permits. This is an effort to promote a clean appearance on rights of way and curtail installation of unpermitted signs. The collected signs are stored for seven days in case someone wants to claim them. After the seven-day storage period, the City disposes of the signs.

Medical director travels to Mozambique

Dr. Ian Greenwald, Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Medical Director, traveled to Maputo, Mozambique, in March as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO). Greenwald helped the group in its efforts to set up an EMS/Fire service in the African country. During the trip, the group interviewed doctors who will travel to the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health where they will be trained in public health so they may take what is learned back to their country.
