City announces first paving project
The City of Sandy Springs's first paving project is tentatively slated to begin on Monday, June 4. Click here for a list of the 11 roads included in the project. Although the construction schedule has yet to be determined, two of the projects, Dunwoody Place and Roberts Drive, will be resurfaced at night due to high traffic volume. Please continue to check the City's Web site for updates to the construction schedule and maps of effected areas. We will be working with homeowners' associations and businesses throughout this process. This project is funded in part from the City's general fund and from the state's Local Assistance Roads Program (LARP). The monies are held over from Fulton County.
If your street is on the list, please move your car according to the instructions on the hang tag placed on your door.
C.W. Matthews is the contractor for the project.

Medical director: AEDs save lives
The City's medical director is urging residents to become familiar with a crucial lifesaving device and is encouraging their installation in public buildings. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are portable electronic devices that shock the heart out of life-threatening arrhythmia. The City has them available for use at City Hall, Police and Fire stations and emergency vehicles. "These devices should be present in all buildings where large crowds gather, such as office buildings, movie theaters, parks and shopping areas, where they can be within a brisk walk for someone to get the device and start performing the life-saving measures," said Dr. Ian Greenwald.

Firefighters battle giant wildfires
Sandy Springs firefighters joined their comrades from around the Southeast to help contain and extinguish wildfires burning out of control in southern Georgia. A fallen power line on April 16 touched off the blaze, which has destroyed 22 homes and consumed thousands of acres. The cooperative effort is part of Sandy Springs Fire Rescue's mutual aid agreement with the state of Georgia. Sandy Springs sent a 300-gallon tank on April 22 and had a continuing presence there during May.
