Readers submit new names for Roswell Road
"Sandy Springs Boulevard," "Sandy Springs Parkway" and "Sandy Springs Highway" are among the suggestions Web site users submitted for the local stretch of Roswell Road. In April, Mayor Eva Galambos called for a renaming of the road that passes through Sandy Springs to tie it more closely to the community. A Web form on the home page allows for the submission of suggestions.
As of April 26, the leading suggestions were "Sandy Springs Boulevard" (8), "Sandy Springs Parkway" (4), "Springs Boulevard" (2), "Sandy Springs Drive" (2) and "Sandy Springs Highway" (2). Ten submissions indicated a preference to leave the name as it is. Other submissions (one each) include "Chattahoochee Boulevard," "Eva Galambos Road," "Eva Galambos Parkway," "Galambos Avenue," "Galambos Street," "Independence Avenue," "Independence Parkway," "Sandy Springs Avenue," "Sandy Springs Throughway," "Spring Street," "Spring Weather Road," "Springs Road," "Springwell Road," "Stephen Colbert Drive," "Terrapin Road" and "Wellsprings Road."

Firefighters, citizens learn CPR, lifesaving
The City of Sandy Springs trained 260 residents and 20 firefighters in CPR and lifesaving during April. The classes are part of the City's goal of training 1,000 people in the community. Cosponsoring the public training with the City were Leadership Sandy Springs' Team Heat and the American Heart Association. The 20 firefighters, trained on April 12, taught the April 21 public class at the four local fire stations. The training included hands-on instruction using the Automated External Defibrillation devices installed in throughout Sandy Springs. The attendance broke the City's goal of 200 for the day.
There will be more classes later in the year. Interested residents can check the Sandy Springs Web site periodically for dates and times of upcoming classes..
Permit counter changes speed process
Homeowners, builders and developers can now get their permits more quickly, thanks to changes in the permitting process. For example, the process for residential interior work or repair with no footprint or elevation changes has been streamlined significantly. When staff receives and verifies that FEMA flood zones do not apply, the permit will be issued without a building plan review. If a FEMA flood zone applies, a permit can be issued after flood ordinance related items are addressed. Building inspectors will continue to inspect construction to verify code compliance.
