Sandy Springs Named ‘Tree City USA’ Community

For the third straight year, the City of Sandy Springs has been recognized as a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to urban forestry.

Sandy Springs met the four required standards needed to be a Tree City including that the community have a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The prestigious designation ensures that a community achieves set standards for proper management of their forest resources. Managing a urban forest provides many benefits including attracting new businesses, jobs and residents. Healthy community trees also provides clean air, clean water, shadier streets, stormwater management and aesthetic beauty.

The City’s Arbor Day observance will take place on Friday, February 17. The event will include a tree planting as well as presentation of an Arbor Day proclamation. The event begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of Sandy Springs Circle and Cliftwood Drive across from the Lefont Theater.
