Release Date: 11/19/2010
November 19, 2010— The City of Sandy Springs received the state’s top beautification award for the design and development of Morgan Falls Overlook Park in the Community Improvement category by Keep Georgia Beautiful, a part of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The Community Improvement award recognizes efforts to preserve and improve the beauty of a community.
“Sandy Springers love spending time at Overlook Park. The park’s many amenities, including the multi-use pavilion and innovative playground equipment, are in continual demand,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos.
The City’s first master-planned and constructed park since its incorporation in 2005, Overlook Park at Morgan Falls opened July 28, 2010, and represents the culmination of more than nine years of grassroots efforts led by the City of Sandy Springs, the Sandy Springs Conservancy and Leadership Sandy Springs. Overlook Park has quickly become a community landmark and neighborhood gathering place.
“Receiving this award is an important honor for the City of Sandy Springs, our community partners and residents. We are thrilled with Overlook Park and excited by this recognition,” added Sandy Springs City Manager John McDonough.
Mayor Galambos, Councilmembers Dianne Fries, John Paulson and Ashley Jenkins and City Manager McDonough attended the 32nd Annual Keep Georgia Beautiful Awards Luncheon at the Emory Conference Center Hotel to accept the first place award for the City. “Today’s program celebrates and recognizes 32 years of collaboration by individuals, schools, corporations, non-profit organizations and government agencies to keep Georgia’s environment beautiful,” concluded DCA Commissioner Mike Beatty.
