City Council election set for 2009
Seats for the Mayor and six Council members in Sandy Springs are up for election during 2009. Qualified candidates may file for the November 3 non-partisan election between August 31 and September 4, 2009 by picking up a one-page affidavit from the City Clerk’s office at 7840 Roswell Road Building 500. The fee for qualifying is $750 for Mayor and $360 for Council. According to the city charter the mayor and members of the council shall serve for terms of four years and until their respective successors are elected and qualified. Qualifications include:
- Resident of the City of Sandy Springs for a continuous period of at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of the election for mayor or council member;
- Shall continue to reside therein during that person’s period of service;
- Continue to be registered and qualified to vote in municipal election of the City of Sandy Springs;
- Residing in the council district the person seeks to represent for a continuous period of at least six months immediately prior to the date of the election; and
- Continues to reside in such district during the person’s period of service.
If no candidate receives a majority vote for a position a runoff will be held on December 1, 2009.

CONSTRUCTION: Dunwoody Club Drive at Spalding Drive Intersection
Construction will begin the week of June 8, 2009 on the west bound portion of Spalding Drive leading to the intersection to construct a dedicated right turn lane onto northbound Roberts Drive. Additionally, signalization will be provided eliminating the stop sign on northbound Dunwoody Club. A lane closure will be required. Construction is planned to be complete by late summer 2009.
CONSTRUCTION: Spalding Drive
Weather permiting, crews will be repairing a storm line along Spalding Drive. There will be one westbound lane closed between 9 A.M. and 3 P.M.
CONSTRUCTION: Perimeter Center West
Expect heavy delays along Perimeter Center West/Abernathy Road between 9 A.M. and 3 P.M. Monday – Friday, specifically from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Central Parkway/Crowne Point Parkway. New curb is being installed in this section of the roadway. One lane may be closed in each direction. The major lane closures will cease by June. This project is to be complete by November 2009
CONSTRUCTION: Peachtree Dunwoody Road (Night Work to Begin)
In order to complete the improvements along Peachtree Dunwoody Road, nighttime lane closures will be in effect beginning Thursday, May 28, 2009. These lane closures are necessary for intersection upgrade work on Johnson Ferry Road @ Peachtree Dunwoody Road. One lane closure of each road in each direction will be allowed from 8PM to 6AM Sunday - Saturday.
CONSTRUCTION: River Valley Sidewalk Project
Please be advised that construction has begun on both sides of River Valley Road from Riverside Drive to Amberidge Trail. Motorists should be aware of possible delays. | |
